I used to love this game, bought it as soon as i saw it on Steam. Unfortunately, they have changed absolutely nothing within the game. 0 improvements, nothing new. Same static camera, maybe %5 improved graphics and nothing more. The cars, the music, the gameplay remains the same; dont know what the redline edition implies tbh. Was utterly disappointed and im sadly refunding the game.. Okay, so this is something really special for me.Crashday has always been one of the games from my childhood that have constantly had a place on my harddrive throughout all the years and I played it at leats once a year, even if it was only to install some mods. I had tons of fantastic hours of gameplay in this game and when I found out that it's going to be remastered, I nearly choked. I never expected this but I love the fact that it happened!About the game itself: Crashday is a game in which you race cars, fight with cars and do stunts with cars. Those are equipped with a minigun and a rocket launcher (not usable in every mode/event). The vanilla game features 12 cars, all of which have their own special capabilities, and a whole bunch of tracks/scenarios which are playable in seven game modes. There's Wrecking Matches, which is basically the Vehicle deathmatch in which you fight other drivers and earn points for kills/wrecks. This can be played in an FFA variant of in teams.Then there's Death Matches, which is pretty much the same except for the fact that each player or team has to be first to reach a specific amount of kills.Last Man Standing should be quite self-explanatory, you fight other drivers to complete destruction, and the last car to stand wins.There's also Stunt Shows in which the player has to show tricks with his vehicle, e.g. jumps, barrel rolls, flips and general destruction. The aim of this mode is to collect as many point through combos in a given time.Races should not need to be explained, they work the same as in every other racing game (except for the gunplay, maybe).Hold the Flag is a classic mods in which a player or a team has to capture a flag and keep it while driving through a set amount of checkpoints. The first team to clear enough checkpoints wins and the flag can be taken away from another car by ramming it.Pass the Bomb is a mode played in Death Match arenas where one player gets a bomb fixed to his car at the start of each round which has a timer that runs out before it explodes. The bomb gets passed on to other cars by ramming them. Whoever had the bomb last gets the most points each round, and the one who blows up gets nothing.Bomb Runs are a kind of races in which every participant gets a bomb fixed to his car which will only go off if the car's speed decreases below a certain point. The minimum required speed raises with each passed checkpoint of the race.At last, there's Test Drives, which simply let you roam around the maps on your own without any goal.Another unique feature about this game is its detailed track editor, which lets the player choose from a huge variety of environmental tiles and objects (expandable through the Steam workshop) and build a track, arena or scenario of their own. It's easy to use and gives a lot of room for creativity.The career mode is quite short, which I find to be a little sad as the game has potential to hold a much bigger number events, but what's there is good, and should be challenging enough for most players.The multiplayer mode offers everything that the single player mode offers aswell, except for the Test Drive mode, but as far as I've been experiencing it, it's great fun, aswell with friends as in public lobbies.In my opinion, Crashday is an underrated game with a lot of potential for modding and building and every fan of Racing games should give it a try, especially if they love a good bit of destruction with it.. Cars, crashes, minigus and missiles, this is my dream game. Had this back in the day and I bought this day one when it came out on Steam, graphics still look great, damage was awesome for its age, a very healthy mix of racing, stunts, destruction and minigames that are actually intense and interesting, and a level editor and Steam Workshop for unlimited fun! I recommend this game without any second thoughts!The important stuff:- Car steering is more physics based than you'd think, offroad tires will slip a lot on the tarmac, and vice versa- Racing involves checkpoints, you'll be turning back a lot if you don't use the breaks and miss them (i.e. not so arcade)- Miniguns, missiles and double missiles are the only weapons, but they're more than enough!- Some missions are really hard to complete but are still usually satisfying in the end (goals that push you to becoming a really good player)- Multiplayer community is not very lively, it is there and it is friendly though. There's usually a room open when I check.- Tons of settings for demolition derby (and other stuff but we're here to destroy cars!) so you can find your right mix - cars can take lots of punishment or blow up with a couple of crashes depending on the damage setting, you can choose which weapons and pickups are allowed, victory conditions and amounts (10 cars? 50 cars? the most in 5 minutes? 10 more than the opponent? it's up to you) so this will likely cater to both more arcade and more dragged out playstyles. If that makes any sense.- Very few changes from the original though definitely revamped, pickups can be disabled.- If you've played the original or have experience with similar racing games, the campaign may take as little as 2 hours. In spite of the not-so-great AI though, you're likely to get a great deal of fun playing solo or multiplayer.. by todays standards pretty terrible. Here are some large points. I can't be bothered to go into detail.- Handling is bad.- Track design is bad.- AI is bad.Generally, it succeeds at nothing. Don't bother.. WARNING! RANT AHEAD! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!if your picking this up as a pick-me-up with the current lack of twisted metal style gameplay (outside of diesel guns which is cheaper and looks like it really hits that spot but at requires a better PC) STEER CLEAR OF THIS GARBAGE. music is crap (and frankly makes me want to puke), handling on vehicles is crap, as hitting the handebreak makes me do a full U-turn. a clear lack of ability to rebind keys to the mouse (such as the minigun and missle launcher) and cars come to a complete halt if you hit a twig. if your a fan of twisted metal and looking for a pick-me-up this is NOT the game for you...give this one a wide berth, and a taste of napalm.the minigun has a range of I swear....five...maybe six feet, ITS A MINIGUN, NOT A SHOTGUN. you need to be directly behind someone to even hit them. the car slides accross asphalt like a wet noodle on ice, the reset key in game doesn't just put you back upright, it moves you twenty feet backwards, and sometimes doesn't even put you back on the track, this game is a nightmare, and I have never been so♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥off at the mere exsistance of a game....ever....and I've played some♥♥♥♥♥♥games. what makes it worse is that everyone who posts a positive review seems to do so with nastalgia tented glasses of ages past. I have never used the refund before, but I am now....side note, if you rebind the keys and then decide you want to go back to the default, good luck because there is no reset key bind...anywhere. so you'll just have to memorize the layout..
